To be honest with you, I’m a little nervous about writing this post. The short version is that I’m thrilled to have won the Best Travel Writing Award at the recent TBU conference in Innsbruck. The medium version is that now I’ve seen the full list of nominations I’m even more honoured than I was before.
And here’s the long version.

Best Travel Writing on a Blog
TBU, a conference aimed at travel bloggers, launched its first set of awards this August. I was offline in Malaysia when nominations opened and then presenting at the conference when voting took place. This is a long-winded way of explaining that I didn’t know how many great travel writers I was up against until after I won the award.
Anyone in the world could nominate someone. Only those at the conference could vote.
As I said before (see, I’m a little nervous now I know you’ll be scrutinising my writing,) I was thrilled – and touched – to win. Partly because I’d been running a workshop on travel writing earlier that day and I can’t ignore the fact that it would have been incredibly embarrassing not to get a single vote after that..
Mostly, though, because while I continue to try to improve my photography, my blog design, my negotiating skills and my marketing, the writing’s the part where my deepest passion lies. Every time I’m let loose near a keyboard, I strive to write that bit better. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Today, of course, is a particularly off day.
It seems only fair, therefore, to highlight the other travel blogs nominated for the award.

Congratulations. Well deserved. I am honored too, just to be nominated among that list above :)
