La Cueva de los Majuelos
A few weeks ago I spent a day joining in with the olive harvest in Jaen, a mountainous region in Andalusia. After a hard day at work, it was time for cerveza and tapas.
We hadn’t worked particularly hard, of course, but we didn’t let that stop us from joining in with the rewards…
These photos are taken from in and around the majestic La Cueva de Los Majuelos - the Hawthorn caves – an incredible and unusual experience in underground dining.

Looks like that’s almond blossom – how lovely to be in Spain in the Spring – I bet it’s more fun than Bristol
Well, Andalucia has just recorded the wettest winter EVER but on the rare occasions when the sun has shone it has been spectacular.
Very cool. We found a similar place in Okinawa where they serve coffee and snacks and play music and even have art displays.
Oh I like this a lot. Even if the weather is damp outside. I think it’s great the more people are getting into the creative dining experience.
@Mary R – art displays in caves – that is something that I’d like to see!
@Cate – Yes, it’s quite a striking place and although winter has been murky, I imagine that the coolness of the cave would be a perfect refuge once the roasting summer sun arrives.
So fascinating, I love unusual experiences.
Some people live in the caves in Andalucia – although I haven’t seen them myself yet…
