Great article - Having done this myself, I can heartily recommend it to anyone. However, you need to be sure that you pick up your permit first to ensure that you can get all the way to the summit. It is free, but the park operators do this to reduce the environmental impact of tourism at the top of Teide. You can find details of how to get your permit at this Mount Teide page.

That part of Tenerife was such a beautiful surprise – plenty of stunning scenery and the overcrowded resorts were easy to avoid.

Mt Etna’s definitey on my list, too, although I think I’ll always feel slightly nervous about deliberately approaching volcanoes…

Definitely beautiful. I live just a few hours from Mt. Etna (across the Straits) but haven’t been yet. It’s my goal to get there this year!
