Elite Island Hopping in the Caribbean

Well, every job has its downsides as they say. After a month of scrunched up writing, in just a few days I pack my bags again and hit the open road. Or sea, really, as I’ll be touching down in Antigua and then hopping on to the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.

I know, poor me.

A Blogging Marathon in the Caribbean

Like last year, it’ll be part of a blogathon involving the same sexy and sassy travellers for a week at a time spread over a four week period.

This year, though, there’s a twist.

Instead of staying in The Club, Barbados, we’ll spend a few nights in Antigua before hopping off to an island that fits in with each of our blogs’ niche. Matt and Deb from Travel With a Mate will cosy up honeymoon style, Niamh from Eat Like A Girl will tickle her tastebuds and Jayne from 40 before 30 will suss out shopping, style and celebrities.

Street signs in St Vincent's & The Grenadines

And me? My niche is the same as last year: nicheless old me. Or, a blend of luxury, culture, adventure and the unusual. Style and science, snow and sun, the flippant and the flippin’ serious. (And, possibly an incurable case of alliteration.)

Elite Island Hopping

No, as usual, I will be seeking to get under the skin of a destination – while not making the mistake of ignoring its obvious assets. With the help of partners Elite Island Resorts and British Airways, I will first head to Galley Bay in Antigua to receive the baton from Matt and Deb. Then it’s on to Long Bay Beach Club in BVI (that’s the British Virgin Islands by the way, not a tax code or motoring category.)Finally, I’ll meet up with Jayne and have her wrench the baton from my hopefully-by-then-sunkissed hands at St James Club, Antigua.

I’ll also be sipping a pina colada frantically trying to finish my other work in Gatwick’s No 1 Traveller Lounge before I fly.

The Caribbean’s the perfect antidote for a case of the January blues and I know I should be thinking of something profound to say but right now, I’m just excited about it.

But first I must finish the latest instalment of the book I’m writing. So it’s no daydreaming for me. Just eyes down and keep typing. I’ll have time enough to sit back and think as I float over those turquoise Caribbean waves…

[…] I am in Antigua, but it is my second time here this week (and this week my first visit). In between I hopped to St Lucia for two full days (and three short nights). I am here on the #EliteHop, a blogging adventure designed by Elite Island Resorts and supported by British Airways, that brought five bloggers here on four trips (I am the last). We each have different specialties and so explored different aspects. I am all about the food and drink, as you well know. Matt & Deb covered the romance, Jayne uncovers the shopping, celebrities and the glitz and Abi, well Abi in her own words is niche-less on this, but she is very interested in interesting things. […]
