Yes - and each country often has several languages within its borders as well.

Although it feels great when you finally 'crack' a language, sometimes I wish we all spoke the same one. Doesn't have to be English - but just think how many more people you could meet and really get to know if we could all understand each other!

How funny! I am always amazed how multicultural people are in Europe. It's easy for Americans to only speak English, but in Europe, all of the countries are so close together and people are always coming and going throughout them. They are exposed to many more cultures and languages, and are far more prone to learn and use those languages. I get so envious sometimes. I studied Italian for two full years in college in Texas, but I didn't have an opportunity to really use it in the US. By the time I finally went to Italy a few years later, I could barely speak it!
