Five Films That Inspire Travel

Travel inspiration comes in all ways, shapes and forms. Today, the insureandgo team* want to share five films that have inspired them to travel.

A-a-a-nd (exciting pause for drumroll) here they are!

Five Films That Inspire Travel

Eat, Pray, Love – Italy, India and Indonesia

Rural Tuscany

In Eat Pray Love, a woman seems to have it all but decides that she’s dissatisfied with both her marriage and her life and needs a new direction. Pushing herself outside of her comfort zone, she embarks on a trip to Italy, where she discovers food; India where she learns to pray; and Bali in Indonesia where she finally finds inner peace and love. The film threw the spotlight onto these exciting destinations and inspired many people to add them to their travel wish lists.

Under The Tuscan Sun – Italy

Another film about escape takes viewers to the stunning Tuscan countryside in Italy, where they follow the story of a newly divorced writer suffering from writer’s block. Persuaded by friends that a break will do her good, she joins a bus tour in Italy – but ends up impulsively buying a tumbledown villa in rural Tuscany. As she goes about rebuilding both the house and her life, it’s hard not to be seduced by the idyllic setting and the romance of starting again in a new country.

One Week – Canada

This road trip movie follows a man driving a motorcycle across Canada after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Not a cheery subject for a film, yet the scenery and iconic landmarks help to make it uplifting and inspiring.

The Beach – Thailand

The Beach: Thailand

Just about every adventure traveller’s dream is to find a perfect spot that’s known only to a few intrepid travellers – and in this film a young backpacker in Thailand finds himself holding a hand-drawn map that promises just that: a secret island paradise. What he finds seems at first to fulfil his expectations, but he soon discovers that things are not as blissful as they first appear.

Filmed in chaotic Bangkok, the stunning coastal region of Krabi, and the tropical island of Phi Phi, The Beach shows off Thailand’s natural beauty and its potential for adventure travellers despite its dark storyline.

Lord of the Rings – New Zealand

The Lord of the Rings found the lush New Zealand landscape to be the perfect setting for ‘Middle Earth’. Film-goers were presented with an adventure traveller’s playground: raging white water rapids, dramatic cliff faces, dense forests, and glacial lakes.

Wherever you’re inspired to travel to, remember to take out holiday insurance before you go – because if things go wrong they won’t necessarily turn out all right in the end like they do in the movies! For peace of mind, make sure you take out a comprehensive policy that covers you for your entire trip and for all the activities you plan to take part in.
