For the last couple of years I spent December beneath the sparkling lights of the Christmas markets of Europe, zipping along the railroads, crunching through the snow and, more often than not, sheltering from the rain.
This year, I curled up indoors, working on my book (just how nice is it to be able to say that?!) and reflecting on the places I’ve been to and the lessons I’ve learned in 2013 as well as squinting half an eye at the future for next year.
Yet whatever the differences, whenever Christmas Eve rolls around I just want to say the same thing.
if you are working to keep us all warmer, safer, better informed or even entertained while the lucky ones among us get to relax and spend time with those we love.
if these few days make you feel miserable beyond compare. You’re not alone. It will get better. Or as a wiser man said:
If you’re going through hell, keep going
And if you need someone to help you do that, call the Samaritans
And whichever group you belong to, I hope you find joy, happiness and peace this winter and every year.
Merry Christmas – and thank you for reading,
