A Sonnet of Spice & A Cauldron of Colour

Little India, Penang
Take a look at these photos. Then imagine the percussion of hissing and fizzing around you.
Close your eyes and feel the sticky weight of the sunshine, its humidity heavy on your skin while sonnets of spice and a chorus of cardamon clash with cloves, cumin and chopped coriander on the streets of Little India in Penang.
Close your eyes and let this Photo Friday take you to northwest Malaysia.

Um, weird…I was just in Little India in Penang TODAY. Beautiful shots!
That’s even weirder – we were there today!
Gorgeous shots, I now want to go back and try to recreate some of these!
Ooh, that IS spooky! Hope you made it to Gurney Street as well.
These are gorgeous shots. In a single post, you have me convinced I need to make time for this trip next time in am in the area. Beautiful!
And so close to Thailand…you could just hop over the border! :)
I’m coming with! And I agreeeeee! NOM NOM NOM
Take me back with you!
My entire apartment smells like cumin still from what I cooked last night. And now these photos are making me hungry.
My place currently smells of fish. That’s not so good…
Hmmm…Malaysia…love the food there, and so much more. Nice pics!
I had a such a great adventure there and hope to get back to see the rest of the country one day…
Wow, stunning pics Abi! I LOVE Penang – it’s biggest draw is definitely the food. The fried kuey teow and laksa are my absolute favourites. But there’s so much more like the goodies in Little India. YUM! One thing I miss most about Malaysia: the food!
Hm…I’m just realising how much I’ve focused on the food in Malaysia and I haven’t even got to the street food in KL or Gurney Street yet! Such choice, such a range of flavours…I miss it. Thanks for the recommendations…
Love the saturation in the photos, really creates energy in the photos.
It’s such a colourful place…
Your words and photos have really transported me to northern Malaysia. It’s truly tempting to go up to Penang now as I only have about 8 days to spend in Singapore & Malaysia. I thought i would just spend my limited time in KL, but Penang looks like it might be a worth side trip. :)
So…did you make it to Penang?
@Gerard – There is Little India in KL too, so, if you cannot make it to Penang, maybe this will do. Not too much variation than the one in Penang….
Well… After talking to some other Malay friends, we are definitely making a trip to Penang now too. :)
Oh, my tastebuds are jealous…Hope you have a great time.
Yum, your photos really take me back to my Penang visit – such taste and colour and culture!
I feel hungry every time I come back to this post!
