Talking about Christmas traditions at home…
I struggled to explain Christmas Pudding to my Spanish friends (partly due to my limited vocabulary and partly because of the implausible story: brandy in the pudding, brandy in the butter that comes with it, and brandy poured straight onto the plate.) The point where I really lost them, however, was the finale: setting it on fire and walking through the house (in darkness) to marvel at the blue flames…
However, it’s true. A traditional English Christmas Pudding – a dense cannonball of dried fruit, black treacle, flour, suet and of course, brandy – is served this way at Christmas across the land. And here’s the very tasty proof:
