Pike Place Market, Seattle

Market Entrance Sign at Seattle's Pike Place Market in Red Letters A Photo Story in Seattle

Seattle’s Pike Place Market has pulled off an outrageously flamboyant version of the American Dream: it’s made selling fish sexy.

Making Selling Fish Sexy

Beneath cherry-red letters illuminated on stalks, and just a few feet behind a celebrity pig, crowds gather to watch – that’s right – people sell fish.

But these guys don’t just sell fish, they sing at the fish, they juggle with the fish, they play games with the fish. It’s an oddly uplifting experience.

So, for a slice of Seattle that has nothing to do with feeling “Sleepless,” head to Seattle’s Pike Place Market and delight in throwing fish.

Great pictures. Hopefully we will be in Seattle long enough before or after TBEX to see it. Oddly enough I know the throwing fish bit from, I believe, a Real World Seattle entry clip: I don’t remember hardly anything about the show, but the throwing of the fish.

Lots of great things to see in Seattle – but if you’re really stretched for time then I’d definitely suggest heading straight to Pike Place Market. There’s so much more to see…

I love these photos. Seattle is such a lively city. The guy in the second one sure doesn’t hurt the sexy fish-selling image!

Jenna – agree about that second shot. :)

Looking forward to a brief glimpse of Seattle (just enough to whet the appetite) on the way to TBEX.

Glad you’re all appreciating the, er, composition of the second shot! Have fun in Seattle.

Great photos! The beauty of Pike Place is there is even way more than the throwing fish bit. One could easily spend hours shopping, eating, & people-watching. Love it!

You’re absolutely right. I did spend hours there and would gladly go back…

If you do the ride the duck tour (amphibious vehicle across the street from the space needle) they will point out the Sleepless in Seattle house in Portage Bay. Just thought I’d mention that since you said something about the movie.

Oh, that’s interesting. I didn’t do a tour but a friend of mine had explained where I’d find the Sleepless in Seattle house. I saw a few that could be it but as I don’t know the film that well, I couldn’t be sure!

Have your say...
