Abi – I love that statistic “43% of people between 55 and 74 use the internet frequently.” Personally, I’m getting more and more of a bee in my bonnet about the way that demographic, “my” demographic, is still overlooked, despite the fact that for 65 years babyboomers have been a major marketing target, now, suddenly, we don’t exist? It is SO erroneous to say that the internet is for younger generations. Babyboomers have the time to surf the net, the money to travel/eat out a lot/buy stuff. Granted to many it’s a tool and they haven’t a clue when something goes wrong – but they ARE a major internet presence. Ooops sorry not to detract from everything else, just to home in on that particular part of what you say. Great stuff on every level.
No apologies – I agree! I’m constantly amazed by the relentless focus on the under 30s.
Personally, I think that younger people tend to comment more as they’re less inhibited about expressing themselves online. Just because the majority of readers are silent doesn’t meant they aren’t there.
