Rain changes the view of a landscape as much as it changes our behaviour. Taking photos in the rain is a miserable experience, accompanied by nagging concerns about camera damage, and so most photos show places radiating with sunshine.
For a different perspective, here are a few snatched shots from Thailand during the monsoon.

Monsoons don’t last forever, though…

Well, thanks for braving the rain to get these photos — it’s a good perspective for all of us virtual travelers!
that last photo makes it all worth it. great shots – i’ve never been in a monsoon!
You’re right – you don’t see many photos of rain, so it’s a nice change. And monsoonal rain is really something else.
Abigail,
Thank you for the post. It is such a beautiful place. I always get discouraged when I travel and the clouds come with me, but the payoff on beauty is so great when the sun eventually shines. Glad it worked the same for you!
There is a reason Thailand is on my must-get-there-ASAP list. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks everyone. Thailand really is a beautiful country – something I’m not sure these photos really show!
Still, it was interesting to see monks walking around carrying umbrellas…
Rain was something I had to get used to quickly when I was in Thailand as I was there in low season. For some reason, though, rain in places like Thailand is never as depressing as when you are at home – I actually don’t mind walking the streets and visiting temples in it but would hate to do that at home!
Very true! I think we often make more of an effort to explore when we travel than we do when we’re at home. Or at least I do!
Thailand is one of my favourite places on earth – they have it all.
