So, this is it. I’m going on a digital detox as the cool kids are calling it these days. What this really means is that I’m going on what we old folk (who remember dial up and actually having to use a red phone booth) call a holiday.
Back in the old days, before email, before mobile phones, before instagram, snapchat, viber and whatsapp, if you weren’t at the office and you weren’t at home…well, then, people couldn’t reach you. They didn’t expect you to work.
It’s hard not to notice how all that has changed.
Now, admittedly, in my rosy hazy glow back look at the past, when I worked before the advent of email and mobile phones, I was working paper rounds and supermarket checkouts. The likelihood of my opinion urgently being sought were slimmer than Kate Moss when she first came on the scene (at around the same time.)
I started this blog in 2009, back before half the things I mentioned in that second paragraph had yet to get off the ground. Since then, by my count, the longest I’ve been offline has been four days in the Galapagos when the boat’s modem caught fire.
And that’s probably nothing to be proud of.
So, here we go.
I am taking a holiday. A two week holiday. And I’m heading to a see a country I’ve been dreaming about for years.
It also has scant wifi, or so I’m told.
Behold! The digital detox!
While I’m away I’ve set up a couple of posts about the wildlife safari that inspired the Lion King’s Pride Rock and a beautiful look at the island of Spetses and the notion of Greek Blue.
Other than that, it’s going to be quiet around here for a bit.
See you in two weeks!
